Rafael Andrade


Born in Santo Tirso, at the age of 12, he entered Artave where he began studying violin. Moves to viola and studies with professor António Pereira in the last year of the course, which concludes in 2010.

In the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts since 2010, he began to be guided by Professor Ryszard Wóycicki, but later he was guided by Professor Jorge Alves, finishing his degree in 2014. Also in 2014 he started the Master's Degree in Performance at "Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien Hannover "under the guidance of Professor Christian Pohl, concluding the same in 2018.

In 2016/2017 he obtained the "Deutschland Stipendium" scholarship, and throughout the Master he received scholarships from the city council of Santo Tirso and also from the Rotary Club. He worked in chamber music with several teachers such as Nuno Meira, Vítor Vieira, Jorge Alves, Ryszard Wóycicki, Oliver Wille, Markus Becker and others. In the year 2014 the string sextet (SAREK) that he joined, is invited to play in the international festival "Harmos Classical". He played in the Orchestra Aproarte, ESMAE Symphony Orchestra, Gulbenkian Youth Orchestra, Studio Orchestra Foundation and Orchestra of the University of Minho, with which he participated in the "Le Festival des Transeuropéennes de la Crea" in France, Orquestra das Beiras, Orchestra of the North (Portugal). Orchestra of the Hochschule für Musik Hannover, Detmolder Kammer Orchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover (Germany). Festival Dell'orchestra Giovanile Italiana (Italy). Lord Brisbane Imperial Orchestra (Australia), among others.

He worked with maestros like Ingo Metzmacher, Emilio de César, Cesário Costa, Ernst Schell, Colin Metters, António Saiote, Pedro Neves, Michelangelo Galeati, Wolfgang Kurz, Christoph König, Vytautas Lukocius, Jan Zarycki, Jean-Marc Burfin, Rui Massena , Joana Carneiro, Paul McCreesh, Atso Almila, Eiji Oue among others. He obtained the 2nd Prize in the "National Competition of Viola Ourém-Fatima" (2010-upper level). He attended masterclasses of viola with professors Jorge Alves, Aida-Carmen Soanea, Predrag Katanic, Luiz Magnin, Jon Thorne, Sven Arne Tepl, Helen Callus, Volker Jacobsen, Jerzy kosmala and Ivo van der Werff and chamber music with Frank Stadler, Searmi Park, Sven Arne Tepl and Nina Schumann.
