The Póvoa de Varzim International Music Festival (FIMPV) launched this year, regarding its 43rd edition, an initiative entitled “FIMPV Jovens Intérpretes”. The objective was to help minimize the scarcity of opportunities for young Portuguese artists in the midst of the pandemic, emerging as an incentive to continue fighting for a career in the world of music.
Under the sponsorship of the Directorate-General for the Arts and the Póvoa de Varzim City Council, this initiative will give the young Portuguese musicians the opportunity to play in the FIMPV, at the concert on July 20, 2021. In addition to these entities, the contest featured also with the support of the Póvoa de Varzim Lions Club, which for the first time joins the FIMPV. According to its president, José Manuel Almeida, “this new partnership turns out to be a natural link between two entities that move towards common values in favor of the service, support and dynamization of the local community”. On the part of the Póvoa de Varzim Pro-Music Association, the FIMPV organizing entity that also manages the Póvoa de Varzim Music School, Raúl da Costa said that “this link with the Póvoa de Varzim Lions Club is a source of pride and great satisfaction and will allow for a significant increase in support for young winning artists and will also be a platform for future support initiatives ”.
