Verazin Quartet
Resident ensemble of Póvoa de Varzim International Music Festival (FIMPV), the Verazin Quartet was created by the Associação Pró-Música da Póvoa de Varzim in 2007. That same year, its first public presentation took place in the 29th edition of the Festival. It has been regularly integrated into its programming ever since. He is involved in the publication of the extensive repertoire written for string quartet, having already performed in public works by Barber, Beethoven, Borodin, Brahms, Chausson, Debussy, Dvorák, Golijov, Grieg, Joly Braga-Santos, Joseph Haydn, Mendelssohn, Pärt , Prokofiev, Ravel, Schubert, Shostakovich, Viana da Motta and Hugo Wolf.
The quartet has benefited from the various chamber music masterclasses promoted by the FIMPV, in particular with the string quartets Prazak, Fine Arts, Pavel Haas, Ardeo and Ebène. He worked with Vladimir Mendelssohn and Jacek Klimkiewicz at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, and was also led by Professors Ryszard Wóycicki, Ana Bela Chaves, Radu Ungureanu and Pavel Gomziakov.
Regularly invited to collaborate in the most diverse socio-cultural activities of Póvoa de Varzim and in the Northern region of Portugal, including concerts in Dias da Música (CCB), Estoril Lisbon Music Festival and Casa da Música.
He has collaborated with several soloists in concert such as soprano Raquel Camarinha and pianists Daniel Cunha, Yoan Héreau, Sérgio de A. and Raúl da Costa.
In January 2018, inaugurated the cycle of pedagogical concerts "Ala-Arriba", to be carried out throughout the year in several venues in Póvoa de Varzim - an initiative dedicated to attract new audiences.
Recently recorded the work "The Seven Last Words of Christ" by J. Haydn for the publisher Paulus, with the collaboration of the Basilica dos Congregados, Braga.
The Verazin Quartet is strongly committed to the premiere and divulgation of new works, being a dedicatee of the Quartet nº 2 - "Movimentos do Subsolo" and Quarteto nº4 by António Pinho Vargas and "Verazin nº1" by Carlos Azevedo, works commissioned by the FIMPV. It also premiered in Portugal "Tenebrae" by O.Golijov and "Quimera Etérea" by Inés Badalo Lopez.
